Bubbling Your Time With RubyOnRails and AJAX
While creating the new Compact Calendar 2009 for Ghana I read this article at David Seah’s blog about Sean Johnson’s “ETT-style” BubbleTimer Web App.
It got me interested as we have also developed a time tracking application last term at Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) as a trainings project. I got a two week trial account for BubbleTimer and started to play around with it. It is a RubyOnRails application, making extensive use of AJAX to give it a nice desktop like feel as you can see in the screenshot. So check out Sean’s BubbleTimer, maybe it is also useful for you.
The best at last:
I reported some minor bugs and feature requests to Sean Johnson, the developer of BubbleTimer. We got talking about what he does at BubbleTimer and what we are doing here at MEST. As his way of supporting our NGO he offered us free BubbleTimer accounts for all staff members and trainees. I hope you allow me to quote you Sean:
“Some free accounts is nothing compared to the work done by the world’s NFPs.” (Sean Johnson)
That is a great attitude I think and I am sure that our trainees will pay back big time for support like this in the future. Some years down the road we will see some successful IT companies coming out of Ghana. So I just want to send Sean a big Thank You in this post. Hopefully the BubbleTimer project will be a great success for you!
