A “modern, environmentally friendly” bike tour in Budapest : The Pedicab
Just opposite of my current flat I saw these strange looking vehicles getting out of a basement garage every morning and back in there every evening. So I started wondering what the guys driving this bike like things really do and guess what I found. The so called Pedicabs present just another way of getting around the city in a “modern, environmentally friendly” way, as the Pedicab Website says. The are actually driving on the street most of the times, so their drivers even need a driving license! The website also has a lot of pictures and movies about their service and you can also use the English Pedicab Website in case your Hungarian is as weak as mine.
Unfortunately the website does not contain any information about the prices for hiring a pedicab driver. I asked already and they told me prices would be up on Monday May, 4th but still they are not. Hopefully they will be soon or you can of course also ask directly when you see one of the driving around.
Also the company PediCab Kft., who is organizing this service, offers jobs at the moment. Here their description:
Our company is waiting for the applications of those young people (over 18 years old) who know the streets of Budapest well, speak at least one or two foreign languages well, and are in a suitable physical condition to ride about 40 – 50 kms a day on the rickshaws – and have a category “B”? driving license. Personal hygiene, politeness and patience are preconditions to employment. In return for these we are offering you a fabulous job, suitable pay, flexible work and a friendly atmosphere. We are regularly organising trainings for our applicants in which they can learn to ride the rickshaw and get to know this exciting job.
That would be a fun way of getting to know the city and even earn some money. If I would only have more time! :)
